We’ve received great support from Italian sustainable leather brand Foglizzo who have designed an exclusive, limited edition Water Revolution Foundation lanyard. Foglizzo has made it possible to set up a fundraiser to help achieve our goal to neutralise the footprint of the yachting industry and preserve the world’s precious oceans.

We were invited for the third episode of YachtTalk organised by Heesen Yachts. For this show the central topic is the sustainable future of yachting. Robert van Tol, Executive Director of Water Revolution Foundation, explained why the industry should turn the tide together and how to do just that.
“Our next major deliverable is a database of sustainable solutions, so there cannot be a lack of awareness anymore” – Robert van Tol
Robert is joined by Enrico Della Valentina, Team Leader Yachts at the world-leading research institute MARIN, and naval architect Perry van Oossanen of van Oossanen.⠀ ⠀ Watch the episode now.
Despite only being one year underway, Water Revolution Foundation was surprised to be recognised by Robb Report as the winner of their Sustainability Award.
The explanation was that “Water Revolution Foundation’s business model made the most sense for longevity because it was being funded privately by some of the strongest superyacht brands in the industry. We also felt that the self-interest of these brands (making sure the oceans are healthy) was a stronger base than just altruistic organizations who rely on outside funding. We also felt that you were coming up with practical sustainability models that each shipyard could use internally in order to gauge and monitor their environmental impact. We felt that this was the most promising and serious effort we’d seen by an internal organization. This was our first Sustainability Award, and we felt that it should go to a group, even in its infancy, that would be around for a long time.”
So far 42 industry professionals have completed our Sustainability in Practice management course. Today is World Oceans Day. This is an important day to celebrate our precious oceans, but it’s also a time for the superyacht industry to unite to help protect them. And for good reason. Our passion for the water is the very reason our industry exists. We are intrinsically connected to the oceans and our future relies on their health. At Water Revolution Foundation, we understand that the challenges facing our oceans are also the challenges of our own industry. Alongside our efforts to reduce the footprint of the superyacht industry, we recognise that for a well-rounded approach, we must also directly invest in conservation efforts.
It is our pleasure to share with you our second animation, explaining the methodology behind our Yacht Assessment Tool.
This part II animation emphasizes the Life Cycle Assessment approach, where our tool is based on and why this is important when assessing environmental impact.
