Sustainability in Practice management course
‘Sustainability in Practice’ is the first course Water Revolution Foundation launched as part of its educational programme. This is a management course tailored to the superyacht industry.
The course provider is Centre for Sustainability & Excellence (CSE) who are renowned for their management courses for sustainability and have trained 90% of Fortune 500 companies.
This tailored course is very pragmatic and aims at lowering the barrier to start a sustainability programme inside a company tomorrow, and provides attendees with useful tools and tips. Testimonials from previous participants can be found below.
- To understand sustainability definitions and key concepts
- To introduce the business case of sustainability and regulatory trends
- To use effective communication (and avoid greenwashing) of sustainability, internally and externally
- To identify UN Sustainable Development Goals related to your business case
- To define necessary steps for creating a sustainability strategy
- To set the methods for sustainability reporting
- To understand life cycle assessment (Yacht Assessment Tool)
- To understand how to measure corporate social impact and carbon footprint
This course is a management course. Typical attendees of such courses are CEOs, COOs, managing directors, operational directors, marketing directors and heads of production.
Table of contents
The course covers the following subjects:
- Module 1: Sustainability (CSR) and the Business Case
- Module 2: Current Global & Local Sustainability Trends
- Module 3: Sustainability (CSR) Strategy and Related Global Standards & Guidelines. Measuring Environmental Impact
- Module 4: Sustainability Reporting Frameworks and Stakeholder’s Communication
The programme takes 5 hours in total and is divided over these two consecutive days of 2.5 hours each. The number of participants is capped at 14. Zoom conference call technology will be used, which allows to break-out in groups. The course slides will be shared by screen sharing. The online course covers the same content as the physical course and therefore qualifies as preparation for the optional post-course exam assignment.
Post-course exam assignment
The exam is an assignment where the attendee applies the lessons from the course to their own organisation and submits a written plan to the course provider for examination. The results follow a few weeks after the course. When successful, an official digital certificate will be issued in your name by CSE, the course providing institute. In case the exam is not taken, a written confirmation of attendance is created after having joined the full day.
Water Revolution Foundation offers the course at nearly cost price, it is our aim to make it accessible for as many yachting professionals as possible. We are offering the online course at:
- €315 for attending the course, without taking the official exam assignment.
- €695 for attending the course AND taking the official exam assignment to write a sustainability plan and earn your ‘Sustainability Practitioner’ certificate issued by Centre for Sustainability & Excellence (CSE).

The next online course will take place in July and November.

“I am looking back on a very interesting course. I got some useful insights, tools and tips during the ‘Sustainability in Practice’ management course. Great interaction between trainer and practitioners. And the content is nicely connected to the yachting industry. I recommend this course to everyone in the boating and yachting industry with serious intentions to get started on the path of neutralising their ecological footprint.“
Maik van Zoggel – Business Development Manager – Volvo Penta
“Taking part in the sustainability in practice management course gave me the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge and insights into sustainability – in general, and for our industry in particular. Applying the concept of sustainability within the post-course exam assignment helped me and our organization to further detail the company’s sustainability strategy. After successfully passing the exam and being certified as a “Sustainability Practitioner” by the Center for Sustainability and Excellence, and therefore being part of a broader community, I am able to benefit from the experience of fellow practitioner from diverse sectors. I highly recommend taking part in the course, as well in the post-course exam. We need to get more people involved in order to work on solutions for a sustainable future for the yachting world. It is crucial for our industry.“
Moritz Schmidinger – Head of Project Development – Vedder
“Water Revolution Foundation has played a major role in shaping my professional understanding of what sustainability actually means for our business and our goals, as well as the urgent global social and environmental needs. Along with the clear vision and tools provided during the course, one will find insights into how to achieve results within their organisation.“
Roger Termorshuizen – Expert Safety Department – Heesen Yachts
“The course was very well done. It fully explained the concepts, provided useful tools and helped us to better understand the subject matter. We learned how to communicate sustainability effectively, as well as identify goals and develop strategies to reach them. I am extremely happy I attended the course and was very proud to receive certification.“
Michela Reverberi – President – Reverberi Design
“The course is short and dense, allowing attendees to get a clear idea of how sustainable development can be applied to yachting with straightforward applicable solutions. In addition to the course itself, the certification assignment guided us through the main steps in order to formalize a possible approach within our own company, linking the substance of the course to one’s reality. In addition, the course is business oriented, meaning it is not utopic but gives concrete arguments for a “greener” business development to which managers and shareholders will be agreeable.”
Charlotte Dimet – Project Manager – MB92 – La Ciotat
“I found the course very informative and insightful. There is a lot to take into consideration with regard to sustainability in the superyacht industry. We, as designers, have a moral obligation on sourcing materials that align with this. It is an exciting time of change, and we are glad to be on the journey together.”
