During 2020 and 2021, Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS) conducted extensive research in the cruise and yacht industry, emphasizing the critical need for sustainability and profitability in vessel development.
True progress necessitates unified development processes, spanning financing, business models, design, construction, delivery, and eventual upcycling at the end of a vessel’s service life.
The Viken Group unites leading companies with similar values, providing comprehensive design, naval architecture, and project management services for cruise lines, yachts, hotels, resorts, and private residences.
The better together as a full service “Design Hub” vision is embodied by Viken Group, including TDoS, Hot Lab, and Thalia Marine.
Hot Lab, award-winning yacht design studio established in Milan in 2004, is known for meticulous research and elegant styling, collaborating with prestigious shipyards and refined owners globally.
Tillberg Design of Sweden, a major player since 1964, specializes in cruise ship and yacht liner projects and concepts, graphic design, and branding, always prioritizing sustainability.
Based in Trieste, Italy, Thalia Marine offers full-service project management, providing technical design expertise for yacht and cruise ship building industries, including design consultancy, quantity surveys, on-site inspections, and more.

At Van Oossanen Naval Architects, we specialise in designing high-performance boats, ships and yachts, as well as many other advanced, special‑purpose marine vessels.
Decades of expertise and experience in naval architecture, hydrodynamics and design management allow us to help shipyards and owners build or retrofit vessels to improve every aspect of their performance, efficiency, seakeeping and, above all, sustainability.
At heart, we’re engineers, which means we’re driven by an insatiable curiosity – continually researching, developing, experimenting. In fact, we spend over 20% of our time and resources on in-house research & development projects.
And we take the best ideas and transform them into award-winning products and applications. For example, our world-renowned and patented Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), which improves efficiency and comfort across a vessel’s entire speed range. Or our Fast Displacement XL® hull design, which solves the puzzle of efficiency, comfort and space (on deck and below deck) for a given tonnage.
Virtually every aspect of our design and engineering work aims to make our clients’ vessels more sustainable or to reduce their environmental impact, whether it be reduced noise levels, suppressed wake formation, increased fuel efficiency, lighter-weight construction or reduced material usage.
We’ve always believed it’s been our social responsibility to do business this way. But now it’s time to do even more and to show this to the rest of our industry and the world at large. This is why we’re aiming to achieve B Corporation status and affiliating with organisations such as the Water Revolution Foundation.
Research on hydrodynamic applications is conducted as well together with Hull Vane BV, a Netherlands-based company which provides and develops innovative solutions to improve a vessels comfort, performance and seakeeping.
The Hull Vane® is a patented submerged stern wing designed to reduce a displacement or semi-displacement ship’s resistance and motion in waves. Combining Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and our in-depth knowledge of hydrodynamics, we can customise and optimise the design of the Hull Vane® to achieve the highest level of performance. Depending on a vessels suitability and factors such as its length, speed and hull design, a Hull Vane® can reduce fuel consumption by anywhere between 5 and 20%, and in some cases even 25% savings are attainable. Hull Vane is available in three variants: the T-series, the U-series and the specials, which are fully customised. All types are optionally available as an active pitch stabilizer, called Dynamic Hull Vane®.
We believe that ships can always be better, faster and more efficient. We master hydrodynamics, ensuring optimised seakeeping, performance and efficiency for your vessel.
