A crucial pursuit in our efforts to accelerate change in the superyacht industry is our Database of Sustainable Solutions – where Hull Vane, Explore E8 & E9, and Hempaguard X7 have recently been verified as sustainable solutions for offering innovative alternatives to business-as-usual systems.
Reducing the superyacht industry’s environmental impact means implementing more sustainable solutions throughout. Such solutions can be verified by the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and found in our Database of Sustainable Solutions, where systems, knowledge, and best practices are being shared in order to enable collaborations and accelerate change within the yachting community. Once published, this online hub will offer a space for suppliers to promote alternative solutions and inspire buyers to shift away from conventional practices in preference of sustainable systems, like Hull Vane, Explore E8 & E9, and Hempaguard X7. As the first verified solutions in our database, we are proud to share these products’ achievements in driving the superyacht industry toward sustainability.
Hull Vane: an energy-saving solution for hulls
With a mission to improve the comfort and hydrodynamic performance of vessels, Hull Vane B.V. has developed a patented, energy-saving solution that reduces a ship’s motion and stern wave. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted on Hull Vane confirms its capacity to reduce fuel consumption and related emissions whilst having negligible impact on the environment through its construction and end-of-life.
Explore E8 & Explore E9: maximum power, minimum energy
OceanLED’s E8 and patented E9 underwater lights have also been verified as a sustainable solution by the LCA assessment. By providing maximum lighting effect with minimised power usage, Explore E8 & E9 exceed conventional on-board lighting systems in terms of effectiveness and sustainability.
Hempaguard X7 anti-fouling: fouling-free coating for all
Another sustainable solution verified under the LCA methodology is X7 by Hempel A/S, an antifouling coating that uses advanced technology to extend the fouling free period. This eco-friendly alternative to standard antifouling products is suitable for all yachts, with no limitations on service speeds, including those that are slow/ultraslow steaming vessels. There are likewise no restrictions for vessels operating with long service intervals up to 60 months and/or very long idle periods of up to 120 days, the latter of which matches the average operational profile found by Water Revolution Foundation for yachts over 30 metres.
Calling on suppliers!
Hull Vane, Explore E8 & E9, and Hempaguard X7 exemplify the purpose of our database in showcasing sustainable alternatives to conventional systems within the superyacht industry. As innovative solutions that have been rigorously assessed by a third party and proven to reduce environmental impact, these products have been given access to showcase themselves in Monaco Yacht Show’s Sustainability Hub and the upcoming METSTRADE Sustainability Route.
We encourage suppliers to take inspiration from the development and verification of such products by sharing their own sustainable solutions with us in order to reach key decision makers, gain valuable insights about a product’s impact, and demonstrate the verifiability of its solution. Start the process of submitting your solution by becoming a partner of Water Revolution Foundation and supporting our efforts to neutralise the superyacht industry’s ecological footprint.

If you absolved our Sustainability in Practice management course or follow the regulatory developments in line with the European Green Deal, you may have noticed the increased importance given to non-financial reporting.
Therefore, together with our strategic partner Centre For Sustainablity And Excellence (CSE), we have developed Sustainability Reporting Guidelines specific to the yachting sector. These guidelines will prepare you with the questions relevant to our industry, will help you to understand where you stand in the preparation for official reporting, and will be a practical tool to help to focus on the relevant topics.
Even if currently required only for larger companies, the target group is being widened. Furthermore, addressing non-financial reporting is beneficial for your company’s sustainability endeavours and for engagement with your stakeholders.

METSTRADE, the world’s greatest exhibition and networking event for B2B leisure marine equipment suppliers and buyers, is further building on its consistent efforts to promote best practice in sustainability across the sector. In addition to other initiatives, this year’s show will introduce a ‘Superyacht Sustainability Route’ in collaboration with the Water Revolution Foundation. Focused on the superyacht industry, this new initiative will indicate exhibitors on the METSTRADE 2022 show floor who have passed the Foundation’s rigorous Life Cycle Assessment with a verified entry in its Database of Sustainable Solutions.
The Superyacht Sustainability Route is anticipated to be of significant assistance to the purchasers who attend METSTRADE 2022. Buyers are highly dependent on reliable third-party confirmation of environmental credentials to achieve the increasingly ambitious environmental objectives of their companies and the boats and superyachts that they build, refit and care for.
Niels Klarenbeek, METSTRADE Show Director, states: “The launch of this year’s Superyacht Sustainability Route is in addition to other initiatives that METSTRADE is facilitating to promote sustainability across the sector. As the Water Revolution Foundation’s Database of Sustainable Solutions builds on the availability of independent third-party verification, we aim to bring more transparency to the innovative environmental impact reduction activities of the superyacht sector and its supply chain.”
Robert van Tol, executive director of Water Revolution Foundation, adds: “What a way to celebrate our fourth anniversary at METSTRADE! The new Superyacht Sustainability Route will benefit both visiting decision makers and exhibiting suppliers. Third-party verification of environmental credentials is crucial for the yachting sector to accelerate its sustainability progress. We’re very pleased that the world’s largest gathering of B2B leisure marine equipment professionals embraces this approach and provide extra spotlight to those that deserve it.”

We are excited to announce a strategic partnership with the Monaco Yacht Show. The 2022 show in September will feature a new area called Sustainability Hub. To ensure this new area showcases the most advanced companies and solutions, we have worked with the MYS organisers on criteria to be met at the registration process for eligibility. Solutions that have already been verified by us for the Database of Sustainable Solutions are automatically eligible for exhibiting.
Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the MYS: “The MYS constitutes one of the industry’s major voices; a share of social responsibility that we fully assume today, together with the whole yachting community. That’s why we’ve decided to collaborate with the Water Revolution Foundation. They have the legitimate resources to select the eligible companies to exhibit at the Sustainability Hub. The MYS also wants to be a driving force to support the development of real environmental solutions in yachting”.
This is a great step forward to show the sustainability progress in yachting and put those that lead the way in a well-deserved spotlight. We continue to grow the list of benefits for verified solutions.
Should you be interested to learn more and/or apply to exhibit in this new area, please get in contact with Sidonie Bonnier, Exhibitor Account Manager, via sidonie@monacoyachtshow.mc or (+377) 93 10 41 70.
