About
Learn more about Water Revolution Foundation and our mission to accelerate sustainability in the superyacht industry.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY
The superyacht industry relies on the health of our oceans. It is our responsibility to work together to ensure we act sustainably, with the goal of neutralising our footprint, preserving the world’s precious oceans and ensuring we have a sustainable business for the future. Water Revolution Foundation was established to drive this change.
Our mission
Our opportunity
Our approach
We take a constructive and collaborative approach that is aligned with the international scientific and institutional agenda. By providing the superyacht industry with tools, knowledge and best practices, Water Revolution Foundation will be the central platform facilitating the shift towards the neutralisation of our ecological footprint and conservation of our precious oceans. We align the superyacht industry with the strategic approach set by high-level international bodies including the United Nations and UNESCO.
How it all began
Water Revolution Foundation was established on stage at The Superyacht Forum in 2018. It was an important moment for the industry; finally there was an organisation ready to take the lead and drive sustainability.
From its beginning, Water Revolution Foundation was always a collaborative effort. It was initiated by a small group of superyacht industry leaders who shared the belief that we must change course in order to better look after our planet and guarantee the future of our industry.

November 2018
I am convinced that we need to pool and expand our knowledge and activities even more than before, as it is in our common interest to actively reduce environmental impact. In my opinion, Water Revolution Foundation forms the ideal platform to jointly focus on this goal and to encourage a new culture of environmental awareness within our industry.”

The companies making this possible
We’re fortunate to have strong support from many companies and individuals within the superyacht industry who have united behind our mission to accelerate sustainability and preserve our precious oceans. These companies include superyacht builders, designers, suppliers and refit yards. A forward-thinking cross-section of the superyacht industry ready to make a change.
Public Benefit Organization
Water Revolution Foundation is a Dutch legal entity called a ‘stichting’, which is “an institution aiming to achieve a certain goal”.
The foundation has also been granted the status of a Public Benefit Organization. This is a non-profit tax designation in the Netherlands that demonstrates that at least 90% of the foundation’s efforts are focused on the greater general good, beyond the interest of the sector it is operating in or that of the partners that are supporting the foundation. It’s a designation that comes with strict reporting requirements, ensuring that the foundation is operated in a transparent manner.
Opportunities beyond Superyachts
The superyacht industry is the perfect breeding ground to trial, test and perfect new sustainable solutions. This is thanks to the extraordinarily influential clients who have the resources to drive sustainability, and the many skilled craftsmen, engineers and architects who are not afraid of pushing the boundaries. Furthermore, many superyachts are custom, one-off projects, meaning that each yacht is a vehicle for change.
But why should it end with superyachts? Yachts, like shipping vessels, are professionally-operated, ocean-going vessels that meet stringent global maritime regulations. That means that the same pioneering solutions developed by the superyacht industry can, and should, be adopted by the wider maritime industry. And vice versa. The superyacht industry can import knowledge and solutions from other maritime sectors. It’s all about working together to save our precious oceans.
