Fendaskin

About the product

Sustainable Bioprene fender covers for inflatable fenders on yachts and superyachts FENDASKIN is DEFENDA’s next-generation fender cover, engineered as a tight-fitting, smooth-surface alternative to traditional knitted acrylic or neoprene covers. Designed for use with DEFENDA inflatable yacht fenders and compatible cylindrical and spherical marine fenders, FENDASKIN helps protect topsides while reducing water absorption, grit retention and storage volume. Made from Bioprene, a Neoprene substitute which doesn’t use Petrochemicals or mined minerals FENDASKINS are the only sustainable fender covers on the market. Our reversible design already lengthens the life of our covers and now, after extensive materials testing, we have achieved excellent fade resistance as well, greatly extending the life of these covers.

Improved environmental impact

Defenda’s innovation showed a reduction in environmental impact across all impact categories. The reduction ranges from 65.95% to 92.79%, demonstrating that the Fendaskin is a more sustainable option compared to its mainstream alternative made of neoprene [BAU]. The LCA has shown a decrease of GWP by 86.28%, Water Stress Index by 77,04% and NOX by 65.98% in comparison to BAU. It is possible to see some relevant contributions of the Downstream phase in NOx, SOx and Acidification categories mainly due to the long distance transportation by ship.

Frequently asked questions

Bioprene fender covers are protective covers made from an eco-friendly material called Bioprene. They are designed to protect boat yacht hulls from wear and tear. Bioprene is a sustainable Neoprene alternative, that doesn’t use petrochemicals or mined minerals in the production process. USDA Certified, our Bioprene is made using renewable rubber, sugar cane, plant oils and recycled oyster shells.

Bioprene fender covers are made from a sustainable material, whereas traditional fender covers are typically made from synthetic materials such as Acrylic or Neoprene. The Bioprene used in every FENDASKIN is completely Neoprene-free and PAHs (Class II), REACH/SVHC and RoHS compliant.

Using Bioprene fender covers helps reduce the use of petrochemicals and mined materials, which helps protect the environment. They also provide better protection for yachts than traditional covers, but with the added benefit of being eco-friendly. From raw material preparation, manufacturing, to final delivery, the carbon footprint is reduced by 52% and 79% 0f the carbon is from renewable sources, in accordance with ASTM-D6866.

Yes, Bioprene fender covers are made to be more durable than traditional covers. They have improved UV resistance and are guaranteed not to fade for two years, twice as long as most alternatives. In addition, their lifespan is doubled because every FENDASKIN is reversible.

Yes, DEFENDA has partnered with Circular Flow a groundbreaking organisation, that has opened Europe’s first Neoprene recycling facility. As a result, we can now offer customers the opportunity to dispose of their old Neoprene and Bioprene covers or wetsuits responsibly, creating a fully sustainable solution for the manufacture and disposal of fender covers.
